Description

The Austin Waldorf School is seeking a full-time music teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. The music teacher is an active member of our faculty and is responsible for building our 3rd through 12th grade general music and choral music programs, which foster a love of singing. Our music teacher will collaborate with creative, knowledgeable colleagues from all sections and be supported by professional development opportunities. 

Requirements

  • An understanding of child development through the lens of the Waldorf curriculum
  • A degree in Music, preferably specializing in choral music or music education
  • Experience teaching grades and high school students
  • Good classroom management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to collaborate

Job Description

  • Teach the 3rd through 8th grade general and choral curriculum and conduct the high school chorus. This includes: music literacy, recorder playing, composition, improvisation, and other related music and ensemble skills to be applied when developmentally appropriate.
  • Promote multicultural and inclusive representation of the human experience to foster belonging. 
  • Develop and manage the choral music library and resources for classroom use.
  • Share responsibility for carrying the music program with other members of the music department.
  • Hold music performances and assembly presentations with students.
  • Support and participate in the Festivals life of the school.
  • Lead faculty and staff in singing opportunities during faculty meetings and in-service days.
  • Collaborate with faculty and provide music resources to support classroom music singing as well as musical ideas for class plays. 
  • Produce individual student reports for each class at intervals determined by the school reports for each class at intervals determined by the school registrar and section chair.
  • Represent the music program to parents, other professionals, and in public.
