Presentation High School is seeking candidates for a Head Athletic Trainer beginning in July 2019 to begin immediately. The Athletic Trainer is responsible for developing, coordinating and administering a comprehensive sports medicine program for the school. The Head Athletic Trainer is expected to perform professional and administrative services essential for the successful implementation and development of the program and participate in the Presentation community.


Purpose of position: Oversee all phases of health care in the athletic program.

Reports to: Athletic Director

Major Responsibilities:

  1. Establish and implement procedures for prevention, evaluation and management of injuries.
  2. Provide initial first aid/emergency care.
  3. Design and supervise safe rehabilitative protocol.
  4. Provide daily maintenance of the training room, supplies and equipment.
  5. Develop and oversee the budget for training room supplies.
  6. Coordinate and oversee Sports Physical Night (Training Room Fundraiser).
  7. Collect practice and game schedules from varsity coaches and input schedule into Facility calendar.
  8. Keep accurate inventory of all sport medicine/athletic training supplies.
  9. Maintain accurate records of injuries and treatments for sports injuries with Sportsware Online program.
  10. Provide athletic training services for all home athletic contests, tournaments and practices.
  11. Provide the coaches and athletic director with a list of athletes medically eligible to compete under CIF regulations prior to each season of sport.
  12. Coordinate with Presentation Athletics’ Team Physician.
  13. Work in conjunction with the strength and conditioning staff to ensure safety in the design and implementation of fitness, nutrition and conditioning programs customized to meet student-athlete needs.
  14. Evaluate and recommend new techniques and equipment that would enhance the benefit of the sports medicine program.
  15. Communicate daily with in-season head coaches regarding the status of athletes to practice and compete.
  16. Implement and manage a comprehensive concussion program including recommendations for baseline testing and return to play protocol and coach, student-athlete and parent education.
  17. Coordinate with Learning Specialist on Concussion Management Return to Play protocol.
  18. Act as a liaison between family physicians, medical specialists, coaches, athletes and their parents.
  19. Facilitate CPR and First Aid courses to keep the coaching staff and Presentation faculty current with their certifications.
  20. Maintain and update the Athletic Emergency Plan for Presentation athletic facilities and distribute to the coaching staff.
  21. Administer IMPACT testing for all freshman, junior and transfer student-athletes in the high-impact sports.
  22. Collect emergency contact info for all student-athletes and distribute information to coaches for their season.
  23. Ensure hydration carts are set up for practices and games each day.
  24. Attend seasonal coaches and parent meetings

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC)
  • Current first aid, CPR and AED certification
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience working as a Certified Athletic Trainer in progressively responsible roles; experience in independent schools, especially Catholic schools strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated leadership and facilitative skills
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills with an ethnically and socioeconomically diverse student and parent population

  • Demonstrated professionalism in dealing with coaches, parents and student-athletes
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of growth and development for high school age student-athletes
  • Working knowledge of computers and basic software programs (e.g. Google Docs, Excel, etc.)
  • Good role model and demonstrated strong ethical emphasis
  • Demonstrated excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs
  • Ability to work non-traditional workdays (nights, Saturdays, holidays)
  • Available and willing to work occasional co-curricular events.
