Description

Princeton Day School is seeking an experienced one-year Kindergarten Classroom Teacher covering the period from August 2023 to June 2024.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implementing a program of effective and developmentally appropriate practices
  • Understanding and applying the principles of differentiation, literacy acquisition, teaching of mathematics and inquiry based instruction and curriculum integration
  • Collaborating with grade level colleagues, special subjects’ teachers and support personnel to develop and implement plans to ensure academic and social success for each student
  • Creating meaningful learning experiences that help all students understand the subject matter based on their abilities, attitudes, effort and achievement in a heterogeneous classroom environment
  • Integrating technology into planning and teaching
  • Partnering with families in supporting students’ social, academic and behavioral progress
  • Participating in school-wide, divisional and grade level conversations about curriculum development and best practices in teaching and learning
  • Using multiple approaches to assess student abilities, providing frequent and clear feedback aimed at student growth
  • Writing end of term narrative reports on student growth
  • Leading parent-teacher conferences to communicate student goals and progress

The successful candidate will have a Masters degree in early childhood/elementary education or another relevant area, and at least 5 years of teaching experience.

Ideal candidates will have theoretical understanding and classroom experience in applying developmentally appropriate practices; knowledge of effective teaching strategies for a range of learning styles; and an ability to incorporate a lens of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of their work. The strongest candidates will also have experience with working in team settings and planning curriculum based on best practices in the field. Other pertinent skills include intellectual curiosity, ability to incorporate feedback into practice, effective communication skills, commitment to ongoing professional development and an understanding of diversity and social justice work in schools.
