Context and Philosophy:

Friends School of Baltimore has an opening for a Kindergarten Homeroom Teacher beginning in August 2023. This teacher will teach reading, writing, math, social studies, community-building skills and the other established kindergarten curriculum. Pre-Primary Head Teachers will work with an Associate Teacher, who also teaches daily in their shared classroom. Of particular interest are candidates who have experience utilizing Google Suite and teaching reading and math.

Responsibilities include:

  • Teaching kindergarten students that include and honor the Quaker values and the Teaching and Learning Paradigm of Friends School.
  • Collaborating with teachers in their department, within the division, and cross-divisionally.
  • Providing parents and administrators with written and oral reports that explain in detail how a child is progressing in the various areas of his/her educational kindergarten experience.
  • Completing timely, detailed, and prescriptive progress reports, grades, and comments at regular intervals during the year for each student they teach.
  • Utilizing an assets-based approach in communicating and developing relationships with students.
  • Committing to professional learning on culturally responsive teaching, mind/brain/education pedagogies, restorative practices, and racial justice training.
  • Committing to learning and utilizing our school's online gradebook and learning management system so that the Spanish class Topics pages are regularly updated and current for students.
  • Attending team meetings, faculty meetings and other duties as assigned.
  • Fully participating in the life of the school.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree and early childhood school experience preferred.
  • Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to understand and incorporate Quaker Principles and Quaker education into their work.
