Description

The Austin Waldorf School is seeking a full-time handwork teacher for the 2023-2024 school year. The handwork teacher is an active member of our faculty and is responsible for building our K-12 handwork programs, which fosters confidence, creativity, problem solving, and design thinking in our students. Our handwork teacher will collaborate with creative, knowledgeable colleagues from all sections and be supported by professional development opportunities. 

Requirements

  • An understanding of child development through the lens of the Waldorf curriculum
  • A bachelor’s degree
  • A certificate in Waldorf Teaching with an emphasis on handwork and/or practical arts preferred
  • Experience teaching multiple grade levels
  • Good classroom management skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to collaborate

Job Description

  • Teach handwork classes according to the curriculum to students in grades 1-8.
  • Perform other duties as assigned; examples are recess, drop-off, and pick-up supervision
  • Promote multicultural and inclusive representation of the human experience to foster belonging. 
  • Share responsibility for carrying the handwork program with other members of the handwork and practical arts department.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in curriculum development for the handwork and practical arts department. 
  • Provide support to class teachers and parents by attending parent meetings to present the handwork curriculum. 
  • Support and participate in the Festivals life of the school.
  • Attend and actively participate in the grades, high school and full faculty meetings and in-service days
  • Produce individual student reports for each class at intervals determined by the school registrar and section chair.
  • Represent the handwork program to parents, other professionals, and in public.
